FM blames lack of devolved immigration powers for worker shortage

Swinney said a 'tailored' migration policy for Scotland would help boost the working age population.

The lack of skilled workers, particularly in the healthcare sector, is back in the spotlight, with the First Minister blaming the failure to devolve immigration powers to Holyrood.

John Swinney also says it’s dragging Scotland “in an anti-growth direction,” and wants a special graduate visa to help boost the working age population.

He says he wants to work with the Prime Minister Keir Starmer on a “tailored” migration policy that could allow overseas students to remain in the country after finishing their studies.
