More Scottish Government funding is being considered for Dundee University, as around 700 staff face losing their jobs.
Education secretary Jenny Gilruth said on Tuesday she expected an announcement on extra financial support in the coming weeks.
The Scottish Government has asked the university to scale back the number of proposed job cuts as it tackles a £35m deficit.
