Scotland’s prison population remains at a critical point as 8,444 are behind bars despite the Scottish Government’s rolling emergency early release scheme which has seen hundreds of short term prisoners set free ahead of time.

STV News went to HMP Barlinnie to hear of the ongoing challenges as more prisoners prepare to be liberated this week.
Others working on the outside describe the situation as chaos.
