They’ve been without a reliable ferry service for six months – plagued by cancellations and breakdowns, and now a replacement vessel that can handle only 45 passengers.
Today the islanders of South Uist met with the transport secretary who said the impact of the disruption was “very sobering”.
Fiona Hyslop confirmed funding will be granted this year to start the process of building a new ferry for the Lochboisdale to Mallaig route.
