Inspectors have described Scotland’s largest prison as being in a “wretchedly poor state”, which may be so bad that it could be breaching human rights.

A review by HM Inspectorate of Prisons found HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow to be over 30% above its capacity.

It has “strongly urged” the Scottish Government to do more to tackle the “fundamental problem” of overcrowding.
