Lee’s jeans sit-in story brought to life on stage

A new play tells the story of when 240 textile workers barricaded themselves inside the Lee Jeans factory

The women at the heart of a defining chapter in Scotland’s workers’ history have seen their story brought to life on stage for the first time.

Stand & Deliver, produced by the National Theatre of Scotland, tells the tale of the seven‑month occupation of the Lee Jeans plant in Greenock.

The play portrays the story of some of the 240 textile workers, led by shop steward Helen Monaghan, who barricaded themselves inside the factory after learning their American owners planned to move production elsewhere.

Stand & Deliver: The Lee Jeans Sit-In runs at Glasgow’s Tron Theatre from April 28 to May 9, after which it will go on a national tour, ending with a special finale in June in Greenock.
