Losing sight wasn’t ‘game over’ for bowler Maureen

Bowling has proven to be a 'lifeline' for those who have suffered sight loss.

Despite losing her sight seven years ago, Maureen Mitchell credits playing bowls with giving her a new lease of life.

She is one of about 14 others who come along to the Summerhill Blind Bowlers club every week for the company and fun.

Maureen thought going blind meant her playing days were over, but she discovered that bowls could be adapted for people like her, and was encouraged to play thanks to a local charity.

Participants say being able to play has changed their lives for the better, and it’s proof that being visually impaired doesn’t mean it’s game over.
