New cycle safety campaign aimed at drivers launched

On average, four cyclists are seriously hurt on the roads every week

A new cycle safety campaign is launching across Scotland.

A survey of drivers shows while the vast majority know that passing a cyclist too closely is dangerous – a third don’t think cyclists have the same rights on the road as them.

The Highway Code states drivers must leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking. Failing to do so can lead to three points on your licence and a £100 fine.

So, at a time more of us are being encouraged to get on our bikes, STV News went out to take a look at just how safe it is on two wheels.
