NHS on ‘life support’ say doctors and patients

Around 10% of GP surgeries have closed in the last decade

Staff being pushed to breaking point, unsafe working conditions and even the police being called on abusive patients – that’s the reality of Scotland’s GP crisis. And there are warnings tonight it could get worse.

That’s because, despite 300,000 more patients being registered in Scotland now than a decade ago, almost 1 in 10 practices have closed their doors.

In a special report, STV News has been on the frontline of Scotland’s GP crisis – hearing from doctors, receptionists and patients about a system they say is on “life support”.
