No fines handed out under single use plastic ban a year on

Businesses are hitting out at a lack of guidance and support

It’s been almost a year since Scotland became the first country in the UK to ban single-use plastic.

It meant businesses could no longer supply things like plastic cutlery and containers made of expanded polystyrene, being warned they could be hit with fines of up to £5,000.

STV News can reveal not a single fine has been issued since – despite their continued use.

The Scottish Government says it will continue to work to improve compliance.
