Plans revealed for Caledonian Canal upgrade scheme

Opponents say there's no need, claiming it will impact wildlife in the popular tourist area.

Plans have been revealed to upgrade a historic section of the waterway that joins the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness in the Highlands.

Energy company Statera wants to raise the height of the Ness Weir, created two centuries ago by renowned Scots engineer Thomas Telford.

However, the project has faced opposition over claims it would impact wildlife in the area.
