Police patrols to protect capercaillie breeding season

Offenders could face a potential fine or even jail term

They’re one of Scotland’s most endangered species.

But with fewer than 600 of the Capercaillie left in the wild, this time of the year is critical for the breeding season, known as a ‘lek’.

Now police patrols are underway in the Cairngorms in a bid to stop anyone from disturbing them.
