Reggie the hedgehog fronts new protection campaign

A hedgehog who survived being hit by a car has inspired a new drive to ask people to look out for the declining species.

A hedgehog called Reggie who was hit by a car in Sighthill in Edinburgh has inspired a campaign in his honour to raise awareness of how to protect his species.

Scotland’s hedgehog population has been plummeting since the 1950s and Midlothian Hedgehog Rescue are asking people to raise awareness among property buyers and sellers on what makes a hedgehog-friendly home.

More than 30 million hedgehogs were snuffling around our gardens 60 years ago, but now it’s thought there are just one million left. Rescue groups say more awareness and initiatives like hedgehog highways can help.
