Six-year-old girl designs Brazil’s first official tartan

Indie Menzies, from Largs Primary School, came up with the design ahead of Scotland playing Brazil in the World Cup

A six-year-old girl from Largs Primary School created the Spirit of Brazil tartan to celebrate the links between Scotland and Brazil, ahead of the World Cup fixture between the two nations on June 24.

The design is Brazil’s first-ever official tartan and was unveiled at a special event at the Scottish Football Museum on Tuesday.

Indie Menzies says the colours she chose, primarily yellow, green and blue, were influenced by the colours of the two countries’ flags.

Indie is a distant relative of Charles Miller, the Scot who is considered the father of Brazilian football after he introduced the sport to the country in the early 20th century.
