Speculation builds as Labour to deliver first budget in 15 years

Anti-poverty campaigners say that as a minimum they want Universal Credit to be increased.

It’s a major economic and political milestone – the first UK Budget from a Labour government in nearly 15 years will be delivered on Wednesday.

However, with public finances already stretched, there are fears that the chancellor could offer little help to Scots living in poverty.

This could be the most significant budget for years. Today, Keir Starmer promised it would mark the end of austerity.

But with thousands of pensioners losing winter fuel payments and no change to benefits restrictions, those living on the lowest incomes are still wondering what it’s going to mean for them.
