Teachers in Scotland vote to strike over pay offer

Holyrood says there is time and opportunity to make an improved offer

Teachers are planning to walk out in two weeks after backing strikes in a dispute over pay.

The EIS union announced a vast majority of its members have voted in favour of industrial action after rejecting a 5% increase.

The union is campaigning for a 10% rise. It says the result gives them an extremely strong mandate to take action.
