Thousands of birds dead as major avian flu report released

Experts believe the outbreak can only be tackled by long-term conservation measures

At least five thousand birds which spend winter on Isla have died from avian flu, with a major report finding that long-term conservation measures are the key to stopping the deadly virus.

The report by Nature Scot concluded the disease will continue to cause issues for wild bird populations beyond this years nesting season.
