Three quarters of nursing wards understaffed says union

Combined with more nurses opting for agency shifts, unions say the system is unsustainable

Exhausted and overworked nurses have told STV News they feel like they’re letting patients down, due to a chronic lack of staff.

A survey from the union Unison found three quarters of nurses are confronted with staff shortages on their ward every day.

They say even when concerns over staffing are escalated, there’s no solution, leading to burn out and low morale.
