His viral hit has been heard almost 18 billion times and now postman-turned-singer Nathan Evans has given up his day job to pursue a career in music.
Nathan, from Airdrie, shared a video of himself singing a sea shanty on TikTok less than a month ago.
He’s now signed a record deal and is currently riding high at number 37 in the Official Singles Chart.
Nathan started playing the guitar when he was eight and always dreamed of pursing a career in music, but singing sea shanties to make a living is something he didn’t expect.
He told STV News: “Last Friday I just couldn’t concentrate on my post run because my phone kept ringing.
“And when Lorraine Kelly rang I thought I have to take this opportunity, it’s now or never, but I left on good terms in case it all goes wrong!”
Last week, he performed on Good Morning America and appeared on a billboard in Times Square and is now hoping that in the future he will be able to sign another single and maybe an album.
“Will see where this song lands and then hopefully another single or potentially an album somewhere in the future.
“That would be ideal.”
