Student reunites with mum after removing her from care home

Lucy Challoner said she couldn’t bear to watch her mum Judy deteriorate any more during lockdown.

A student social worker was allowed to hug her mum for the first time in nine months after removing her from a care home.

Lucy Challoner said she couldn’t bear to watch Judy, who has alcohol related brain damage, deteriorate any more during lockdown.

The 22-year-old, who lives with her 19-year-old brother, Jack, in Edinburgh, will now be her mother’s carer.

Following their long-awaited reunion, Judy told STV News: “It’s like being released to freedom – sorry, I’m getting emotional.”
