A lurcher who was found abandoned and lying on top of a duvet in a field in South Lanarkshire on Valentine’s Day has been rehomed.
The dog, named Ginny, was found by a member of the public in Crawford earlier this year.
An animal welfare officer from the Scottish SPCA was called following concern for her welfare and Ginny was taken to a veterinary surgeon after it was found she was suffering with a severe limp.
After receiving pain relief, she was then taken to the charity’s Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre to be cared for.
Scottish SPCAWhen efforts to trace her owner failed, Ginny was signed over to the Scottish SPCA and the search began to find her a new home.
After four months waiting for someone, along came Shelagh, her partner and their two children who were looking for a dog to complete their family.
Now, Ginny spends her days enjoying beach walks, curling up on the sofa and playing with her new canine companion Kali.
Speaking about the adoption, Shelagh said: “We have a puppy, Kali, that we got in September last year and my daughter Eilidh was convinced that we needed a second dog as we used to have two.
“Kali is very sociable and we wanted her to have a companion. Eilidh then found the dog we now call Ginny on the Scottish SPCA website and she matched everything we were looking for.
“We brought Kali along with us to meet her and they just got on straight away – the team at the centre said it was the best meet they’d ever seen.
Scottish SPCA“They absolutely love each other – they curl up together, play together and walk together. They’ve really bonded.
“Ginny is also very affectionate with us and is settling in well. She’s very sociable with both people and other dogs – we’ve not seen any indication of fear.
“She’s fitting in really well with us.”
In the time Ginny was with the charity, she captured the hearts of the team.
Eilidh added: “When we were leaving with her, everyone was so excited that she had a new home.”
Shelagh said: “There’s four of us at home and all of us are besotted with dogs so having two feels just right.
“It’s actually staggering that someone would just abandon her because she’s one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had. She’s got such a lovely nature and is just a darling.
“We feel lucky. She’s completed our family and really brought out the best in us and in Kali.”
