A man who was jailed for abusing ten boys over a 35-year period has died behind bars.

William Hay, from Aberdeen, targeted his victims, who he mainly knew through sea cadet training and local school football teams.

The crimes occurred between January 1981 and August 2016 at various locations in Aberdeen and Perthshire, including a beach, campsite, sports complex, and golf club.

The boys were all aged between ten and 15 at the time of the attacks.

Hay was convicted of a total of 12 sexual assault charges following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The sex offender died in HMP Barlinnie, aged 74.
