Armed man broke into Sugo before being tasered

An armed man who was tasered after he broke into a restaurant in Glasgow city centre has been jailed for 14 months.

Jamie McColloch used planks of wood to gain entry to Sugo on August 12, 2025.

The 30-year-old made his way into the kitchen area and smashed a plate over his head.

McColloch then made an attempt to grab a knife but was overpowered by the manager, who escorted him out.

McColloch went on to barricade himself in the lane outside and failed to comply with police instructions.

He was then brought to the ground by a taser after he approached officers.

McColloch pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Sheriff Barry Divers ordered McColloch to be put under supervision for seven months upon his release from prison.

The court earlier heard that the wood McColloch used to break into Sugo around 8pm had two wooden planks protruding from it.

McColloch shouted as the manager attempted to calm him down and asked him to leave.

Prosecutor Ryan Watson said: “McColloch forced his way into the kitchen and tried to grab a knife but the manager stopped him.

“He then grabbed a plate and smashed it off his head.”

The manager and another member of staff grabbed McColloch and escorted him from the premises towards the lane.

McColloch then asked the manager for a cigarette and to phone the police.

Mr Watson said: “McColloch barricaded himself with wooden pallets and had wooden planks in his possession.

“He was covered in blood and stated, ‘f***ing come to me’.”

Police asked a taser officer to attend the scene due to McColloch’s aggressive behaviour.

McColloch approached officers and walked quickly while brandishing the planks of wood.

Mr Watson added: “Officers told him to stop before the taser was discharged.

“He fell to the ground and handcuffs were applied.”

McColloch was initially taken to hospital for treatment.

He replied to officers when cautioned and charged: “I was in fear and alarm for my safety and well-being.”
