Armed police raided homes in Ayrshire after two men were assaulted and a suspect was reportedly seen possessing a weapon within a car.
Emergency services received reports of a disturbance in Logan and the Barrhill Road area of Cumnock at around 10.20pm on Wednesday.
A 31-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment after being assaulted.
A second man, aged 37, was also assaulted; however, he did not attend hospital.
Firearms officers then attended a number of addresses following a report of a man with a weapon inside a car.
Despite the searches no weapon was found. An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.20pm on Wednesday, August 19, we received a report of a disturbance in Logan, Ayrshire, and the Barrhill Road area of nearby Cumnock.
“A man aged 31 was assaulted and taken to hospital for treatment. A 37-year-old man was also assaulted but did not attend hospital.
“Officers, assisted by firearms colleagues, attended at various addresses following a report of a man in a car in possession of a possible weapon.
“Extensive searches were carried out but no weapon was recovered. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“Extra patrols are being carried out in the area, and anyone with concerns or information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3777 of Wednesday, August 19, 2026.”
