A man has been charged after he was reportedly seen with a weapon near a primary school on Monday.
Emergency services were made aware of an individual with a weapon near Loanhead Primary School in Kilmarnock.
STV News understands that the reported weapon was archery equipment.
At no point were either staff or pupils in the school at risk, East Ayrshire Council said.
Officers have charged a 27-year-old man in connection. He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.
Inspector Jonathan Leitch said: “We were made aware of reports of a man with a weapon in the Loanhead Street area of Kilmarnock on Monday, January 27, 2025.
“A 27 year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection.
“He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.”
An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “This is a police matter and East Ayrshire Council is unable to provide any detail.
“However, it is important to clarify that the school was liaising very closely with police colleagues and that at no point was the individual on school premises.”
