Hundreds of artworks are set to go under the hammer at a charity auction in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital charity.
More than 150 urban, street and contemporary artists from across the globe have donated to the collection.
Collector Steve McGill, who organised the event, said: “The art community are just a great bunch of people – very generous in their time and very generous in donating the works.
“We’ve got artworks ranging from £30-£40 right up to artworks that are in excess of several thousand pounds, and [we are] hoping to raise a lot of money for a great cause.”
Glasgow-born James Klinge is one artist who has donated to the auction – and to a cause close to his heart.
His wife Jennifer works at the children’s hospital, and the family received support from the charity when son Joshua was treated there just before the Covid-19 pandemic.
His piece was inspired by English singer-songwriter FKA Twigs’ track ‘You Say You Want Me’.
“The charity’s just become something I’ve been kind fond of to help out with,” he told STV News.
“Whilst painting, I would constantly listen to that song just to be fully immersed in what her lyrical content is and what she’s trying to say, but also the rhythm and sound of the music would influence my mark-making and ultimately how the painting would come out.
“Love, nurture and emotion was really quite exciting to try and document.”
Jennifer said: “I think for both of us, it’s important that no matter how successful James gets is that you always can give back with that.
“[It’s] especially important because it is so close to home and so important to both of us.”
William McGowan, of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “The money raised will make a huge difference to us.
“We fund life-changing projects including family support services, enhanced medical equipment and play and entertainment programmes which make a real and vital difference to children and families who are in hospital.”
The ‘Your Hand in Theirs’ auction takes place at McTear’s on Friday, October 28.
