Homes have been evacuated and an industrial estate closed after reports of a chemical leak in Coatbridge.
A large emergency service response was called to a commercial premises on Cameron Street in the town at around 12.15pm following a report of a chemical leak.
Hazmat teams were called to the scene alongside firefighters and police. Officers have urged the public to avoid the area.
Burnbank Street at Coltswood Road, Cromlet Drive and Northburn Industrial Estate have been closed with local homes also evacuated as a precaution.
Officers said there are no reported injuries but members of the public are advised to avoid the area.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service urged residents to keep all windows and doors closed after the incident involving “potentially hazardous materials”.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 12.14pm on Tuesday November 5, Operations Control mobilised a number of resources, including specialist hazmat units to a commercial premises on Cameron Street, Coatridge, following reports involving of an incident involving potentially hazardous materials.
“As a precaution, residents are asked to keep all windows and doors closed.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police and emergency services are in attendance at a premises on Cameron Street, Coatbridge, following a report of a chemical leak.
“Burnbank Street at Coltswood Road, Cromlet Drive and Northburn Industrial Estate have been closed and local properties have been evacuated as a precaution.
“There are no reported injuries.
“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
