Ben Sandilands wins Team Scotland's first athletics gold at Glasgow 2026

Ben Sandilands claimed Team Scotland’s first athletics gold of Glasgow 2026 as he won the men’s 1500m T20 final, while teammate Steven Bryce secured bronze at Scotstoun Stadium.

Sandilands clocked 3:57.25 to take the title, finishing ahead of Canada’s Michael Barber with 4:01.84, while Bryce crossed the line in 4:02.40 to complete a Scottish double podium finish.

The 21-year-old Paralympic champion finished more than four seconds clear of Bryce to secure his first Commonwealth Games gold.

The result also marked a double success for Fife Athletics Club, where both Sandilands and Bryce train.

First Minister John Swinney posted on X: “Superb run by Ben Sandilands to secure a gold for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games. Congratulations!”
