Better than John Lewis Christmas ad? Five boys from Denny react to becoming 'superstars'

The five young boys from Scotland 'absolutely' feel like superstars after their rendition of Last Christmas went around the world.

When five young boys from the small town of Denny decided to go carol singing, they didn’t expect to become a global sensation.

Jack Campbell, Dylan Thompson, Cameron Bourne, Liam Phillips, and Ollie Shearer were being “typical boys” hanging out in their local streets near the town centre on Saturday.

“We were just walking about the town and this idea just came to mind, ‘We should go carol singing’,” Dylan told STV News.

At around 4.30pm, they visited Erin Chalmers’ home while the mum-of-two was at work and her husband had taken their kids to football.

The lads, who are all ten or 11 years old, rock up the driveway, triggering the motion detection on Erin’s Ring doorbell and capturing a video that has been watched more than 1.4 million times.

“[The family] caught it on their Ring doorbell while they were away and then they posted it on TikTok, and we’re just viral,” he told STV News.

The video has attracted thousands of comments from around the world with many suggesting it should be Scotland’s official Christmas advert and saying it has beat John Lewis’ festive offering.

“It’s brilliant to see that we’ve made so many folk happy, and to see all the views and all that,” Cameron said.

Having now gone global and with features in national newspapers and on TV, do the boys feel like superstars?

“Absolutely,” said Liam.

The boys’ mums have been filled with pride. Jack’s mum Dianne described it as “heartwarming”.

Dylan’s mum Stephanie said he has “always been a performer” but didn’t know about it until he texted her saying: “Mum, I’m famous.”

Cameron’s mum Kerry said it was cute and hilarious and very unexpected.

“I didn’t know he could sing like that, I’m surprised they even know the song,” she told STV News.

Liam’s mum Collette said she was blown away.

“He’s as proud as punch that him and his pals did such a good thing together,” she said.

Ollie’s mum Hannah said: “He’s forever singing, we’ve always got the radio on in the car.”
