Boclair Academy teacher accused of calling pupil racial slur and ranting about terror group

A Glasgow teacher has been accused of calling a pupil an offensive racial slur and ranting about terrorists on social media.

The teacher, who has not been named by the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS), was employed by East Dunbartonshire Council at Boclair Academy when the alleged incidents are said to have occurred.

In or around April 2016, the teacher is alleged to have made a racially offensive comment to Pupil A by calling them a “P**i”.

Around the same time, he is also accused having reprimanded the pupil in an aggressive and intimidating manner, causing him fear and distress.

Another claim from August 2016 says that the teacher also appeared in videos together with an 11-year-old child, while in the child’s bedroom.

In the video, he is alleged to have shared confidential information about his job with the child; allowed himself to be filmed while inside the child’s bedroom; allowed the video to be uploaded to social media; and then shared the video on his own public Facebook page.

In November 2016, he is alleged to have shared confidential information about his employment status, and confidential information about a pupil and parent with a member of the public.

The final allegation claims that in 2016, he also posted comments on his Facebook page with the knowledge that it was open to public viewing.

The comments were said to include references to testing drugs on prisoners who had abused children and that the families of members of terrorist group Isis should be targeted.

In a hearing between August 7 and 11, the GTCS will ponder these allegations and listen to witness statements in an effort to determine his fitness to teach.

If his fitness to teach is found to be impaired, he could be struck off from the teaching register.

Gerry Cornes, chief executive of East Dunbartonshire Council said: “It would be inappropriate to comment at this stage of proceedings.”
