iStockPolice say enquiries are ongoing into the death of a man, whose body was recovered near the village of Portpatrick.
Emergency services, including police and coastguard rescue crews, were deployed to the scene on Sunday morning.
A coastguard spokesperson said rescue crews from Portpatrick and Stranraer and others were called to assist as well as Coastguard rescue helicopter 199.
Police have confirmed the response was following reports of a person in the water.
The body of a man has since been recovered.
A police spokesperson said: “Around 7.15am on Sunday, September 20, we were called to a report of a person in the water at Portpatrick.
“Emergency services attended and the body of a man was recovered.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
