A boy has been rushed to hospital after crashing his bike with a motorcycle which then made off from the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the crash occurred on a footpath in Irvine.

The motorbike was off road when the crash occurred before the rider then made off.

The cyclist, 12, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Crosshouse.

The incident occurred around 8pm on Tuesday in Knadgerhill Cemetery, Bank Street.

Road policing sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “I’m appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to get in touch.

“Were you out walking or driving near the cemetery around 8pm yesterday and saw an off road motorbike? Perhaps you have dash cam or private CCTV of the area that’s captured something of significance. If you do, then I would urge you to come forward.”
