Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was “targeted with a missile” during the club’s defeat to Rangers at Ibrox, as Police Scotland launched an investigation.
The Parkhead side said two separate incidents are being investigated after midfielder Arne Engels was struck by a coin near the end of the 3-0 defeat.
The Celtic substitute fell to the ground as he went to take a corner and had to have treatment before resuming.
Now it is understood Rodgers was targeted with a missile in a separate incident during the derby.
Rodgers said after the game in relation to Engels: “Yes, (he is okay) thankfully – an inch lower, he would have been right in the eye.
“But, yes, I think he’s okay. It’s not obviously great for the game, but, yes, he’s okay.”
A spokesperson for Celtic said: “We understand that Police Scotland are currently investigating two separate incidents.
“The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable.”
A Rangers spokesman said: “Rangers FC condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms.
“The club can confirm it will assist Police Scotland with their investigation.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Enquiries are ongoing into both matters.”
