A burst mains in Glasgow’s east end meant around 29,000 customers in and around Parkhead had no water or lost pressure.

Abercromby Street flooded after the mains ruptured near the junction of Gallowgate and Bellgrove Street.

At around 4pm on Wednesday, February 10, Scottish Water received reports of no water in the G31 and G32 postcodes and sent teams to investigate.

They located a burst pipe in Gallowgate which could be seen to be flooding the street.

Technicians were dispatched to carry out urgent repairs with the road closed off by Police Scotland.

Excavation work was required but Scottish Water engineers successfully isolated the damaged section of trunk main and supplies should return to normal.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Scottish Water engineers have successfully isolated a damaged section of trunk main which resulted in disruption to water supplies for around 29,000 customers in and around Parkhead this evening.

“The water network is now recovering and affected customers should see their supply return to normal over the next hour.

“Customers may experience discoloured or cloudy water after their supply returns. If this occurs, they are advised to run their cold kitchen tap at half pressure until the water runs clear.”
