Friends and fans of a Scottish DJ given months to live following a terminal cancer diagnosis are campaigning to get his album to the top of the charts.
Mallorca Lee shared the news of his diagnosis on social media on Tuesday.
The 51-year-old was part of popular dance act Ultra-Sonic in the 1990s, known for their hits Obsession, Love Me Right and Angels before joining Public Domain in 2000.
He then left the band to focus on his solo career as a DJ and producer in 2003 and has performed across the world, becoming a well known face in the Scottish music industry.
Among those sharing their devastation at the news was fellow musician Ross Ferguson who is calling on fans to buy the DJ’s album The Best of Ultra-Sonic.
Posting on social media, he said: “Some of the best times in my life were shared with Mallorca Lee. The last few days have been rough and we can all feel helpless at a time like this. This is something we can do…
“Please support this campaign to get this [Ultra Sonic] album as far up the charts as possible, show him the love he has shown all of us over the years.”
In an emotional post on Tuesday, Mallorca Lee said that he could only have months to live after being given a terminal diagnosis.
A post on his Facebook page read: “I’ve been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the doctor said it could be a matter of months.
“I apologise for not telling all of my family and friends individually, it just breaks my heart a thousand times and I don’t have the strength to go through it all over and over again.
“I love you all, the last ten years have been the best of them all, it really has been wonderful.
“Forgive me if I don’t answer your calls and messages, I’m still processing, even this post feels like someone else is writing it….
“Love, that’s all we ever really have, our one true currency, so tell the ones around you what they mean to you, every day.”
Responding the news, Clyde One DJ George Bowie said: “Can’t imagine what you and the family are going through mate. Absolutely broken by this news.”
One fan wrote: “So sorry to hear this Mal, we don’t know each other and you’ll never know how much you and operation blade changed my life’s musical trajectory.
“And change lives you did, made so many nights the successes they were, made so many sets memorable because of your tunes being dropped and of course lived in all our hearts and will live there forever.
“I’m heartbroken for you though on a personal level.”
“Thank you for everything you have done mate . You have been a total inspiration in not only music but how you conduct yourself as a person. I hope you can beat the odds but just know how loved you are regardless”, another wrote.”
