Care worker filmed 'distressed' child in toilet and shared video on Snapchat

Demi Scott has been banned from working in the childcare profession following the incident in June last year.

A childcare worker has been banned from the profession after filming a distressed child while they were hiding in a toilet cubicle.

Demi Scott was employed as a childcare practitioner by Mount Florida Out of School Project when the incident unfolded on June 20, 2023.

A report by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) outlined that while a child in her care was inside a toilet cubicle and “emotionally distressed”, Scott took a video while saying “come out the toilet one, two”.

She then threatened to report the child’s behaviour to their mum, causing them to suffer further emotional distress.

Scott shared the video on Snapchat with the caption “not today cannot deal with working in a school anymore !!”.

A report by the SSSC found that Scott had “risked the emotional health of the child and her family, as well as potentially risking the reputation of your employer and the social care profession as a whole”.

It stated that Scott had shown no signs of insight into the incident and offered no apology for her actions leading to the decision to ban her from the profession.

Mount Florida Out of School Project has been contacted for comment.
