Celtic's Bolingoli fined by police over quarantine breach

Celtic player Boli Bolingoli has been fined by police for breaching quarantine regulations.

The Belgian left-back flew to Spain last week and never informed the club on his return in a move that has now seen both of their next league games postponed.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she has shown Scottish football a “yellow card” over the incident and Celtic manager Neil Lennon has also hit out at the player he signed last summer.

Now the 25-year-old has also been issued a fixed penalty notice for failing to self isolate and Police Scotland have reiterated how important it is for everyone to stick to the rules.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Speirs said: “A 25-year-old man has today been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for breaching quarantine regulations.

“The Chief Constable has made it consistently clear that we should all take personal responsibility to do the right thing and remember the purpose of these measures is to aid the collective effort to stay safe, protect others and save lives by preventing the spread of coronavirus.

“Throughout the response to the pandemic, the majority of the public followed the law and Scottish Government advice and it’s really important that we all continue to do so.

“Our officers will continue to explain the legislation and guidance but, for the minority who may choose to breach the regulations and risk the health of others, we will not hesitate to take enforcement action where appropriate.”

The set fine for breaching quarantine rules and failing to self-isolate after returning from Spain is £480.
