Scottish champion boxer Willie Limond was banned from driving for 12 months on Friday.

The 44-year-old was caught using a mobile phone in Glasgow’s Maryhill on November 22, 2022.

Prosecutor Leo McGinn told the city’s Justice of the Peace Court that Limond’s van was in stationary traffic when police officers found him using the device.

The former British and Commonwealth super lightweight champion was behind the wheel of a Ford Transit van.

Limond, of the city’s Garthamlock, pled guilty to the single charge of using a handheld mobile phone.

Justice Craig Steven fined Limond £210 and added six penalty points to his licence.

He said: “You have reached 12 penalty points which means you will be disqualified for 12 months.”

Limond replied: “Okay.”
