A chef who was caught in a city centre street with a machete just three days after being released from prison has been jailed for 14 months.
Rhys Allan, 23, was caught with the weapon in Glasgow’s Argyle Street on March 23.
Allan was captured on CCTV moving the black-handled blade from his jacket to his trousers and was arrested.
He later told officers that he had the weapon on him to “defend himself” as someone was threatening his ex-girlfriend.
Allan, from the city’s Knightswood, was released on licence on March 20 after being convicted of a domestic offence.
At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a knife in a pubic place.
Lawyer John Kilcoyne, defending, told the court Allan “realises the seriousness of having the weapon”.
Mr Kilcoyne added the former Nando’s chef is subject to a non-harassment order from a previous relationship.
Allan was locked up for 14 months by sheriff Alan Mackenzie on top of the 100 days outstanding from his previous offence.
