A seven-year-old child who reportedly brought a knife into a primary school class in South Ayrshire has been excluded.
Police were called to reports of a child with a blade at a school in Ayr, with the incident taking place in a primary three class at around 9.20am on Thursday, May 8.
South Ayrshire Council said no pupils in the class or staff were harmed or threatened during the incident at Heathfield Primary School.
The child involved has been temporarily excluded from school.
Parents and carers were notified of the situation and there was said to be no wider disruption to the school.
Police say suitable advice was given and officers are working with partners in relation to the incident.
A South Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “The safety and well-being of pupils, teachers and school staff will always be a top priority.
“We can confirm there was an incident in a P3 class at Heathfield Primary School last week involving a seven-year-old child.
“At no point were any pupils in the class or staff harmed or threatened, and the situation was resolved without disruption to the wider school.
“The child involved was excluded.
“Parents and carers with children in the P3 class were notified of the incident last week.
“The police were also informed along with other relevant agencies.
“Wider communication on the incident was subsequently sent to all parents and carers with children at the school.”
