A lollipop man from North Lanarkshire is set to retire after almost 30 years in the job.
Alistair Doyle, who will turn 80 on Christmas Eve, has helped generations of pupils at St Timothy’s Primary in Coatbridge safely across the road.
After almost three decades, Alistair Doyle is preparing to hang up his lollipop for the final time.
“Twenty nine and a half years and loved every day working with the kids and always smiling. The kids love it, I love it,” he told STV News.
“If it wasn’t for my legs and hips, I’d be here until 90!”
To mark Alistair’s upcoming retirement, a special assembly was held at the school to allow pupils and staff to pay tribute to Alistair’s years of service.
And it’s not the just the children that have fond memories of Alistair. He is well know in the local area and has raised over £160,000 for charity.
While Alistair may be set to hang up his jacket and hand back his warning sign, one thing for sure is his legacy at St Timothy’s will live on for generations to come.
