Community campaigners opposing proposals to develop new homes on their beloved greenspace in Carmyle have met with councillors to raise their concerns.

Local residents are continuing to protest plans to develop up to 400 homes on the greenspace at Cardie Park, next to River Road and Kenmuir Road, which they say will be detrimental for the community and the wildlife living there.

They met with members of Your Party, to tell how the plans would have a negative impact on the village.

Chris Mitchell, who is helping to spearhead the campaign, said: “We have been speaking to councillors Dan Hutchison and Seonad Hoy about how this development is physically impossible in that area which is something they will take back to the council.

“This has made us even more determined.”

Mr Mitchell said traffic in the area is already “absolutely horrendous” and the proposed development would bring more cars to the village.

“There have been concerns on flood risks and the councillors want us to update SEPA because the files are outdated so we can do another report on it,” he added.

A road leading to the new houses would also need to be developed and concerns have been raised about how that would only create more traffic in the area.

Chris added: “This is a pathway right now that people use and it is also a part of the cycle route 77. How can they build a road through there?

“The road they are trying to build is unachievable, it is right next to the River Clyde and it is taking away a lot of the pathways for cycling and walking as there is a connection to Loch Lomond.

“The traffic management will also be horrendous. Carmyle is already exempt from pavement parking prohibitions, because of how narrow the streets are and how many cars there are. This development will only make the situation worse.”
