A man who sexually abused two young boys has been jailed for one year.
David Exley, 43, preyed on the six and nine-year-olds at his home in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, between July 2022 and January 2023.
The construction worker denied the allegations and claimed the six-year-old victim “rehearsed” his evidence to police officers.
But the first-time offender was found guilty by Sheriff David Taylor of two charges of sexual assault.
The sheriff said: “The similarities in time and place and the circumstances of the sexual assaults were such that each of the boys’ evidence corroborated each other.”
Sheriff Taylor put Exley on the sex offenders register for ten years at sentencing.
Exley previously told the court in his evidence that there was one occasion that he did pull down one of the children’s underwear.
Prosecutor Darren Harty asked why he did it and Exley replied: “It was just a bit of fun between me and the children.”
One of the boys told the police officers in an interview that Exley removed his underwear while he was asleep.
He recalled a “bald man leaving” his bedroom.
The boy also stated that he heard Exley laughing or “giggling”.
Both boys stated that they were touched in an intimate area of their bodies.
One boy claimed that this happened to him in a bathroom.
The other boy stated that Exley exposed him before carrying out the same act on him.
Exley told Mr Harty that the six-year-old was “well rehearsed” when recounting what happened to him to the police.
Mr Harty: “Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?”
Exley: “No.”
The fiscal depute said: “You have a warped sense of fun and that’s how you behaved.”
Exley replied: “No.”
