A couple who got stranded on a rock – sparking a full-scale rescue operation – have been fined for flouting the coronavirus lockdown rules.
The 26-year-old woman and 32-year-old man were forced to call for help after getting into difficulty whilst out for a walk on the Argyll and Bute coastline on Monday night.
Police Scotland launched a search within the Cowal peninsula and requested help from the force’s air unit and road policing officers.
Due to the “challenging” nature of the search, assistance was also provided by the Coastguard helicopter and teams from Dunoon, Kames and Greenock.
RNLI lifeboats were also despatched from Largs, Helensburgh and Tighnabruaich.
The pair were eventually found by around 11pm.
Afterwards, they were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for breaching the Covid-19 legislation.
Sergeant David Hardie stated: “Thankfully the persons were found safe and well, however this incident should be a reminder to all that Government guidance around essential travel should be obeyed in order to protect yourself and the emergency services at this challenging time.”
