A cyclist has died following a collision with a pick-up truck on Shetland.

Police were called to the B9074, Trondra, around 10pm on Saturday following the crash involving a black Ford Ranger.

The 51-year-old male cyclist was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The occupants of the Ford were uninjured.

The road was closed following the incident and is expected to remain closed throughout Sunday while investigations are carried out.

Sergeant Ewan Calder said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died, and we’ll continue to offer them support.

“I’m appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have any information which could assist our investigation to come forward.”

“Anyone who can help is urged to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 3319 of March 21.”
