Cyclist killed in early morning crash with van as police probe incident

The 31-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene while the van driver was uninjured.

A cyclist has died after being hit by a van in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At around 6.35am on August 10, a collision occurred between the cyclist and a white Mercedes van on the A760 between Kilbirnie and Largs.

Emergency services attended, however the 31-year-old male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 37-year-old male driver of the van was not injured following the crash.

The incident happened on the A760 near to Muirhead Reservoir and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The road remains closed while crash scene investigators conduct enquiries.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans, from Ayrshire Road Policing Department said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing and we would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or assisted at the scene after to contact officers.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage from around the time of the crash. 

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 0494 of Wednesday, August 10.”
