iStockA man caught with more than £1.4 million of drugs after a police bust has been jailed for six years and five months.
Brian McAneny or Docherty, 40, was found in a van outside his family home in Glasgow’s Barmulloch on June 6, 2024.
The High Court in Glasgow was told that police had intelligence that McAneny was driving the Citroen Berlingo, which had drugs in it.
Plain-clothed police officers watched as McAneny was stopped at the property.
They approached the vehicle and detained McAneny for a search.
He refused to tell the officers his address and distanced himself from the property.
Officers later brought McAneny and the van to a police station.
Prosecutor David Fisken said: “A search of the van recovered large blue bags which appeared to be taped blocks which had the appearance of controlled drugs.”
It was found that there were eight taped blocks of cocaine in the rear of the van with purity ranging between 75% to 77%.
It was estimated that the total weight of the drugs recovered from the van was 16 kilograms.
A search of McAneny’s home recovered cocaine of lower purity, ranging between nine and 31%, which had been mixed with an adulterant.
A total of £1,900 in notes was also found in the property.
Mr Fisken stated that the total drugs recovered had a street deal value of £1,491,282.
McAneny, now of the city’s Blackhill, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of drugs aggravated by a connection to serious organised crime.
It was revealed that McAneny’s previous convictions include disorder, road traffic offences and violence.
Bob Mitchell, defending, told the court that the dad-of-six had been employed by a cleaning company.
Mr Mitchell said: “His role on June 6 involved storage and delivery.
“He is not someone with massive amounts of money in the drug trade – nothing of significance was seized from him other than the cash.
“He wants to accept responsibility for what he did and inevitably return to supporting his family and children.”
When jailing him, Judge Norman McFadyen KC told McAneny: “Everyone in this vile chain is essential, which causes great harm.
“Your role can be described as a lesser role, but it has to be marked with a significant sentence.”
