Driver in hospital after bus crashes into building on George Square

North Frederick Street in Glasgow is closed with emergency services on the scene.

A bus driver is in hospital after crashing into a building and traffic lights on George Square in Glasgow.

The single-decker First bus collided with the corner of North Frederick Street, outside the Flight Club cocktail bar.

Two sets of traffic lights have been knocked down and emergency services are on the scene.

Police Scotland received reports of the crash at around 8.25am on Friday.

The driver has been taken to hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The road has been closed to all traffic and police remain at the scene.

A First Bus spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident earlier today on George Square North in Glasgow involving one of our service 57 buses heading towards Balornock.

“Our driver was taken to hospital for assessment, and we’re not aware of any injuries to passengers. The bus has now been returned to our depot and we are investigating the cause of the incident.”
