Drugs worth over £40k found by police dog in crashed car in Stranraer

Cocaine worth an estimated £42,000 has been seized after police chased a car which subsequently crashed in Stranraer.

Two men, aged 19 and 26, have been arrested and charged in connection to the incident which occurred on Tuesday.

Officers stationed on the A77 near Lochans signalled for a car to stop around 8.50pm.

However, the driver continued along the A77 before turning onto an unclassified road.

Police pursued the vehicle before it crashed and the occupants fled the scene.

The driver and passenger were traced a short time later by police and were uninjured in the incident.

A drugs dog later searched the vehicle where Class A drugs to the value of £42,000 were recovered.

Detective Inspector Graeme Robertson said: “This has been an excellent recovery which included officers from the local area in Response and CID, Roads Policing Officers, and a drugs dog from the nearby port unit, which was all coordinated by our control room officers as the incident unfolded.

“Preventing the sale and supply of controlled drugs is a key focus and we rely on information from the public to help us continue disrupt such crimes.

“The two men are due to appear in Stranraer Sheriff Court on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.”
