An amateur football club has launched a fundraiser after “extensive damage” was caused to their astro turf pitch.
Drumchapel United’s home ground near Garscadden Road in Glasgow was damaged after fireworks were reportedly set off in the area on October 1 and 2.
It’s believed the cost to repair the artificial playing field, which is used by youth teams and schools, will be “significant”.
In a bid to ease the financial pressures felt by the amateur outfit following the “mindless vandalism”, Drumchapel United has set up a GoFundMe with the hopes of raising £4,000.
The fundraiser reads: “The damage is extensive, and we are now faced with significant repair costs to restore it to its former glory.
“The Astro pitch is more than just a football pitch it’s a place where friendships are forged, skills are developed, and our community comes together to enjoy sports and recreation.
“It serves as a hub for our youth teams for training and games, schools and families, and losing access to this has had a huge impact on hundreds of kids who use this pitch 7 days a week.
“We are launching this GoFundMe campaign to try and raise funds to help towards the necessary repair work. Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to restoring this cherished space. Your support will help ensure that we can continue to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.
“Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with your friends and family. Together, we can turn this setback into an opportunity to strengthen our community. Let’s come together and get the kids back on the pitch and playing on the pitch they call home.”
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
